Are You Wearing Real Russian Extensions?

Do you wear real Russian extensions?

#18/613 Dark Blonde mixed with Platinum Blonde

Here at Babylon Hair Do we don't like to talk about what salons do. We believe that our hair speaks for itself, so there is no need to focus on someone else's hair company. But in an industry where many customers are sold hair under the guidance that it is a premium product, we feel the need to talk.

We see this often; a customer will order what she thinks is virgin Russian extensions.

Their hair may be dull, tangled or lose colour. Sometimes the wefts fall out or are completely visible on the head. We just need a look to see that they didn't get what they thought they were paying for.

We are passionate about what we do and committed to providing the highest quality service, so nothing frustrates us more than seeing a customer who is obviously dissatisfied with their hair - and for good reason.

So how can you tell if your Russian and virgin hair extensions are really what they say they are? We used a story from one stylist who buys hair from us to explain...

This lovely client came to her with her hair left; extensions she had received only 4 days before from another salon. As you can see, she left with a filiform look that didn't come close to her natural hair.

Fake Russian Hair

She had been told that her extensions were a top quality Russian product, virgin, but she felt that something was wrong. She had seen so many flawless photos of women with beautiful Russian wefts online; why weren't hers the same?

So after a few days, when she was not satisfied with her hair, she called a new stylist who happens to buy from Babylon Hair Do and made an appointment.

And that's what we told her...

Unfortunately, this client was not sold the beautiful Russian extensions she was expecting.

This is important because Russian hair has unfortunately been adapted to make people think they are buying the best of the best.

The truth is that it can be difficult to know if you are getting this much sought after option as many factories are based in Russia but supply hair from other parts of the world such as China or India.

Choosing Russian or, more generally, Caucasian hair is important for two reasons:

1) because hair has a fine texture, which makes it ideal for working and wearing for long periods of time, and 2) because Caucasian hair comes in all colors and styles. It should be noted, however, that this is not a matter of race; it simply means that you can find the perfect hair for hair extensions without having to resort to coloring or chemical treatment.

Apparently, this client's hair extensions were made at the factory. That's why they have never looked as good as she expected, because the factory's choices are extremely prone to becoming dull, tangled and visibly separated from her natural hair. But how do we know that? There were a few ways to find out...

The hair was dyed...

The client herself said that when she was washing her hair, she could smell the chemicals used to dye it.

When we took off her wefts and looked closer, we could see for ourselves that she was right; we could see the different colors that went through the extensions.

Virgin hair, by definition, means that it was not touched by any chemical or treatment - so when we realized that it was dyed, it immediately meant that it was not a virgin product.

It's simple; colored and treated hair will never be as healthy as untouched options. That's why we uses only the best virgin hair for each of our beautiful clients.

The hair extensions came ready...

#3 Medium Dark Brown hair clips

Russian, virgin hair extensions are not prefabricated and ready to be installed. On the contrary, this type of hair comes in the form of a raw ponytail; it is cut directly from the donor's head, packed and sent to the salon.

If you are buying real virgin hair, you should be able to see this raw ponytail. If the only thing your extensionist can show you is a pre-made fabric that is discarded from the plastic package, then it is most likely made at the factory.

A custom, hand tied weft like the ones we make here at Babylon Hair Do takes between 4 and 6 hours to create.

To save time and money, the factories machine the weave and send it to the salons in its final form.

While this may mean that you don't have to wait as long to get your extensions, you will always see a more beautiful and durable result with a custom option.

The hair had no cuticles...

As we wrote before, the factory hair is collected from multiple donors, unlike a single donor as in the case of virgin hair.

For this reason, the cuticles of the factory hair - which are responsible for preventing the hair from tangling - turn in different directions and begin to stick to each other. To avoid this problem, the factories chemically strip the hair from the cuticle completely and cover it with silicone to make it softer.

However, this only provides a temporary "correction", just enough to make you think the hair is soft and silky.

However, as you put it on and wash it, your hair will start to get bored and knotted. This is the reality, unfortunately, of wearing factory extensions - although they may look good at first, they will always disappoint you in the long run.

Virgin hair, on the other hand, has the original cuticle intact, so you will never find the same problems.

Virgin hair, by its very definition, means that it was not touched by any chemical or treatment - so when we realized that it was colored, it immediately meant that it was not a virgin product.

It's simple, colored and treated hair will never be as healthy as the intact options. That's why we uses only the best virgin hair for each of our big clients.

The extensions came pre-made...

Russian, virgin hair extensions are not pre-made and ready to be installed. Instead, this type of hair comes in the form of a raw ponytail, cut directly from the donor's head, tied and sent to the salon.

If you buy real virgin hair, you should be able to see this raw ponytail. If the only thing your extensionist can show you is a prefabricated weave that is discarded from the plastic packaging, then it is most likely factory made.

Although this may mean that you don't have to wait that long to get your extensions, you will always see a more beautiful and lasting result with a custom option.

The hair didn't have cuticles...

As we wrote earlier, hair is harvested at the factory from multiple donors instead of a single donor as is the case with virgin hair.

For this reason, the factory's hair cuticles - which are responsible for preventing the hair from getting tangled - look at each other in different directions and start to hook up.

To avoid this problem, factories chemically strip the hair of the cuticle completely and then cover it with silicone to make it feel soft.

However, this only provides a temporary "fix", just long enough to make you think your hair is soft and silky.

However, as you put in and wash your hair, it starts to dull and knot. This is, unfortunately, the reality of wearing factory extensions, even though they may look good at first, they will always disappoint you in the long run.

Virgin hair, on the other hand, has the original cuticle intact, so you will never find the same problems.

Let's talk about the installation...

In addition to being sold by the factory, our client's extensions were installed using a method that simply could not provide the beautiful long term results they were looking for.

The hairdresser he went to used a one-count method, which not only causes the stringy, unnatural look you see in the photo above, but also causes natural damage to the hair over time.

Even if the client had received real Russian hair, with this method she would never have left the salon with a good set of mixed extensions. Instead, after several months of use, she would probably have discovered that her natural hair would have started to fall out or become very thin.

We do the opposite; our pearl tracking method also protects and aids in hair growth.

Not only do we not use any glue or adhesive during the installation process, but our fabrics act as a "curtain" on your natural hair, protecting it from the damage you would normally encounter. We have perfected our method, making it seamless, robust and completely reliable.

Our clients feel confident in using their wefts because they know they will always look beautiful - which is exactly how they should feel, day in and day out.

Finding the real virgin hair...

Educating yourself and asking your extensionist the right questions is the key to finding a truly virgin product you can trust. At Babylon Hair Do, this is our specialty. We know you deserve to look and feel good every minute of every day, and that's what we aim to provide with our extensions.
